Could your child be a chorister? Becoming part of this ancient, highly regarded tradition affords wonderful opportunities to the girls and boys involved. Educated at Salisbury Cathedral School, choristers lead full and exciting lives with a weekly routine of practices and services enriched by regular concerts, broadcasts, recordings and foreign tours. Being an integral part of a totally committed team and working closely with colleagues in pursuit of excellence inevitably stands children in good stead for the future and their musical education is unparalleled.
Voice trials are held annually; for boys in Years 2, 3 and 4 - in January, and for girls in Years 3 and 4 in February. The Cathedral and Salisbury Cathedral School run a hugely popular choir open day ('Be a chorister for a day') each November and there is also a Voice Trial Workshop in December. The Director of Music, David Halls and the Assistant Director of Music, John Challenger, are able to offer an informal 'pre-audition' - this is a useful and non-obligatory way to see whether your child could be a chorister and to ask about the opportunities available to children who are interested in choristerships.
